Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 24, 2026
Witit ("we", "us") makes an app for planning hangouts with friends. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what we need to help you make plans, we never show friends what you're doing (only that you're free or busy), and you can delete everything at any time.
Information you give us
- Account & profile — when you sign in with Apple or Google we receive a unique identifier and, on first sign-in, your name (Sign in with Apple may relay a private email). You add a display name, username, photo, pronouns, birthday, location, and interests.
- Availability — the weekly free/busy times and sleep window you set. This is the only calendar information Witit uses; we do not read your device calendar.
- Hangouts & content — plans you create or join, RSVPs, messages you add to a plan, and photos you upload to a hangout.
- Groups & friends — the friends you add and groups you create.
- Support requests — your contact email and the information you choose to include when you ask for help through our web or in-app support form.
Information collected automatically
- Device & usage — app version, device model, OS version, and basic analytics events (e.g. "completed onboarding") used to improve the app.
- Push token — an Apple Push Notification token so we can notify you about invites and plans.
- Approximate location — if you grant it, a coarse location to suggest nearby places. Precise location is never stored on our servers; friends only ever see a rounded, city-level area for your profile.
Contacts (optional)
If you choose to find friends from your contacts, Witit sends normalized phone numbers and email addresses over an encrypted connection to a dedicated matching service. They are immediately converted into keyed, one-way hashes using a protected server secret; we do not store or log the raw contact details. We use the hashes only to tell you which contacts are already on Witit, and only when both people have opted in. You can clear uploaded contact hashes or turn off contact discovery at any time.
How we use information
- To run the core features: showing overlapping availability, sending invites and notifications, and adding confirmed plans to your calendar.
- To keep the service safe: responding to reports, enforcing our Terms, and preventing abuse.
- To improve the app through aggregate analytics.
- To respond to support, privacy, and safety requests.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
The privacy promise about your schedule
When friends look for a time to hang out, Witit shows only opaque free and busy blocks — never the reason you're busy, the name of a plan, who else you're with, or where. This is enforced in our database, not just the app. The one detail shared is whether you've set any availability at all, so the app can prompt you if you haven't.
Who can see what
- Your friends can see your profile, your free/busy availability (never the details), and hangouts you share with them.
- People in a hangout can see each other and the photos added to that hangout.
- Blocking immediately removes a person's ability to see you or interact with you.
How we share information
We share information only with service providers who help us run Witit, under contracts that limit their use of it:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, storage, and backend hosting.
- Apple & Google — sign-in.
- Apple Push Notification service — delivering notifications.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
Retention & deletion
We keep your account information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. Deletion removes your profile, availability, hangouts you host, and uploaded photos from our systems, and revokes your sessions. Support requests may be retained separately as long as reasonably needed to resolve the request, document safety actions, and meet legal obligations. Some records may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.
Children
Witit is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. Send a privacy request through our contact form and we'll help.
Changes
We'll update this policy as the app evolves and note the date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
